Medicare FAQs

Have Some General Q's?

These questions are typically the tip of the iceberg when it comes to navigating the waters of Medicare and senior health coverage.

If you have specific questions, please feel free to reach out to us so that we can discuss your particular circumstances, questions and concerns.

A: According to SSA.GOV, “Medicare is our country’s health insurance program. Although most commonly used by people age 65 and older, some younger people are eligible for Medicare, too.”

A: According to SSA.GOV,

Part A (hospital insurance): Hospital insurance helps pay for inpatient care in a hospital or skilled nursing facility (following a hospital stay), some home health care and hospice care.

Part B (medical insurance): Medical insurance helps pay for doctors’ services and many other medical services and supplies that hospital insurance does not cover.

Part C (Medicare Advantage plans): If you have Medicare Parts A and B, you can join a Medicare Advantage plan. Medicare Advantage plans are offered by private companies and approved by Medicare. These plans generally help you pay the medical costs not covered by Medicare Part A and B.

Part D (prescription drug coverage): Prescription drug coverage helps pay for medications doctors prescribe for treatment.”
A: According to The “Medicare and You” Booklet,

Original Medicare pays for much, but not all, of the cost for covered health care services and supplies. Medicare Supplement Insurance (Medigap) policies sold by private companies can help pay some of the remaining health care costs for covered services and supplies, like copayments, coinsurance, and deductibles.

Some Medigap policies also offer coverage for services that Original Medicare doesn’t cover, like medical care when you travel outside the U.S. Generally, Medigap doesn’t cover long-term care (like care in a nursing home), vision or dental services, hearing aids, or eyeglasses.

A: According to The “Medicare and You” Booklet,

A Medicare Advantage Plan is another way to get your Medicare Part A and Part B coverage. Medicare Advantage Plans, sometimes called “Part C” or “MA Plans,” are offered by Medicare-approved private companies that must follow rules set by Medicare. Most Medicare Advantage Plans include drug coverage (Part D). In most cases, you’ll need to use health care providers who participate in the plan’s network.

These plans set a limit on what you’ll have to pay out-of-pocket each year for covered services. Some plans offer non-emergency coverage out of the network, but typically at a higher cost. In many cases, you may need to get approval from your plan before it covers certain drugs or services.

Remember, you must use the card from your Medicare Advantage Plan to get your Medicare-covered services. Keep your red, white, and blue Medicare card in a safe place because you might need it later. If you join a Medicare Advantage Plan, you’ll still have Medicare but you’ll get most of your Part A and Part B coverage from your Medicare Advantage Plan, not Original Medicare.
A: There are programs such as TRICARE and others that may be available to you alongside (or in place of) your military benefits and/or Original Medicare.

Please feel free to reach out to us so that we can discuss your particular circumstances, and THANK YOU for your service.
